"May the best you've ever seen Be the worst you'll ever see; May the mouse ne'er leave your girnal Wi' a tear drap in its e'e; May your lum keep blithely reekin' Till ye're auld enough to dee; May you aye be just as happy As I wish you now to be!" A Scots Blessing
Last month, we featured a wedding that was steeped in Irish traditions. This month, we cross the Irish Sea to Scotland! Both Chantal and Zan (short for Alexander) can trace lineage back to the land of haggis and bagpipes, and all throughout the day, little traditions were observed and celebrated. From a sixpence in her stunning shoe to Grandma's ring on her finger for luck, these traditions carry on like threads from the past, linking generations future to generations past. Both Chantal and Zan wanted to keep the traditions alive as they celebrated their own wedding, but still put their own stamp on the biggest day of their lives. The colours were black, white and vibrant red, so I chose to show all of these in black and white!

The ceremony took place at the Lod camp on Birch Beach, and while the clouds rolled in during the ceremony, the rain stayed away, allowing for some great moody shots. What I love about these shots is the emotions that show through so beautifully. Zan is quiet, reserved and fairly serious, while Chantal is vivacious, romantic and playful. The candid shots in this wedding are simply wonderful.

The reception was held at Fort William Historical Park, again a nod to Thunder Bay's Scottish heritage. The couple was piped in to the reception hall, the speeches were alternately hilarious and emotional (again, check out the candid shots for the variety of emotions being displayed by everyone in the room.) Another Scottish tradition involves a skit performed by the uncles of the bride, and true enough, Chantal's uncles lived up to their 'responsibility' and entertained the crowd with their bold performance. Take a look at some of these fun shots:

Chantal and Zan, congratulations on taking tradition and bringing it into 2010. Your day was lovely, classy and romantic, and you put a fresh spin on some Ancient ways. Thanks for letting us be a part of it!
"A thousand welcomes to you with your marriage. May you be healthy all your days. May you be blessed with long life and peace, may you grow old with goodness, and with riches." Scottish wedding blessing
