Music, Maestro, Please!

As a part of giving back to our community and supporting the Arts in Thunder Bay, we proudly do most of the promotional photography for the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra. One of my favourite campaigns was the one we shot last spring, featuring the children of some of the musicians, trying their small hands at making music their way! (Check out our blog "The Perfect Note" in Behind the Scenes April 6, 2010) This year, the TBSO is celebrating its 50 Anniversary and it is fitting that it starts off its next 50 with a new music director. Maestro Arthur Post joined the team last year, combining his love of music with a sense of community service, and it has been a pleasure to photograph him in the studio, in rehearsal with the Orchestra and live onstage during several performances. While he seems to be a quiet fellow, what shines through in all the shots is his passion for the music. His expressions change with the moods of the music, and his smile is a fitting reward for those hard-working musicians. The TBSO is tackling some of the 'big guns' this season, with Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Haydn and Sibelius, as well as the musically spectacular opening and closing ceremonies of the 2011 Special Olympics. There is truly nothing like the magic of live music, and the energy of the TBSO just lifts the roof of our Community Auditorium. So go grab a cup of tea, put on some Mozart, and I'll give you a peak at some of the 'behind the scenes' images:

Congratulations to Arthur and our TBSO for a fantastic season so far. Looks like the next 50 years is going to be magic!
