Shelby&Damien:Vintage Vogue

There are five styles of wedding photography that should be a part of every wedding - Formal, Candid, Commerical, Portrait Journalism and Fashion. Each wedding has a different blend of these elements, depending on the personality and wishes of the couple. In the case of Shelby and Damien, two of these styles rose to the forefront pretty quickly - Portrait Journalism and Fashion!! This was a wedding like no other, embracing the true meaning of Vintage as a link to the future. Shelby's dress was a stunning example of 1940's style, with lace overlay, satin bow and sequinned pin. Hair, shoes and jewellry all harked back to a by-gone era, and she even tucked a six-pence in her shoe for luck, an old-fashioned wedding tradition.

The choice of Pioneer Village on Hwy 61 couldn't have been more perfect as a site for their wedding, and Rev. Joyce Hannaford performed the ceremony in the tiny church on the property. Shelby was shuttled to the church in an authentic Model-T Ford (provided by an old friend of the family) and the day stayed bright and sunny as Shelby, Damien and the wedding party headed into the Village for some great old-school Portrait Journalism.

But when Alan took Shelby and Damien off on their own, the fashion element came on strong! Damien is a quiet, reserved guy, with just a look of quiet class about him, and Shelby, well, she just rocked the vinatage glam! She has the features to pull this look off, with her arched brows and bouffant up-do, and when this girl smiles, just look out! The sun has to take a back seat! Some of these shots are simply stunning, and could grace the cover of any wedding magazine! Take a look at some of my favourites:

Then, off to the Nor'Wester and a multicultural reception, complete with dancing dragons as a tribute to Damien's Asian heritage. It was a colourful evening with the vintage sounds of Mark Potvin's Little Swing Band (link) to welcome folks and set the mood. With sons Samuel, Maxwell and Benjamin, and good friend Dan Zadkovich on upright bass, the band played swing and soft jazz for the cocktail hour. Flowers from the Flower Shed and decor from Silk and Cedar completed a lovely atmosphere.

Congratulations to Shelby and Damien on their remarkable wedding - you are a confident, stylish couple and we wish you all the best as you lay hold of your future while embracing your past.
